5 Fun (and Free!) Things to Do In D.C

Conferences and trade shows can be expensive. That’s why DC is the best place to attend or host a conference, since there are so many ways to enjoy the city without spending a dime. Here’s 5 of our favorite DC freebies:

1. Tour the White House: It’s open for free , self-guided tours Tuesday through Saturday Mornings. You’ll need to contact your Member of Congress to reserve your spot well in advance (30 days to 6 months). Be sure to get there early day-of to avoid waiting in lines. Trust us, this tour is well worth the wait!

2. Arlington National Cemetery: Pay tribute to America’s War heroes, by visiting this beautiful cemetery and memorial. Over 330,000 American servicemen as well as Presidents William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy were laid to rest here.  Guided tours are 7.50, but maps and instructions are available for free in the visitor’s center.

3. One of the best ways to explore DC, is by DC by Foot’s free walking tour.  Expert guides give you a humorous, fun and informative tour of Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Lincoln Memorial and the Korean Warm Memorial.  Bring a tip for the guide to show your appreciation.

4. Browse the Smithsonian: Admission is free to all Smithsonian Institutions including the National Air and Space Museum and Holocaust Memorial Museum. These are a must see on your visit to DC, and enjoyable for all ages.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

5. Attend a  performance or Free-Guided tour of the Kennedy Center: Free daily performances are held on the Millennium Stage every day from classical to jazz, theatre and circus performances. While you are here, take a free guided tour of the Center from 10am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and 10am to 1pm Saturday and Sunday. This is great way to explore the paintings and artwork and learn about the performances taking place here.
