Conference Hound-Up July 23-29, 2012: Something for Everyone
Matt O'Connell | Jul 23, 2012
Hello again, Hounds! There’s a helluva lot to get you up-to-date on this week, event-wise. I’m gonna break it down for you so you can skip right to the section that sounds the coolest.
Technology
DevCon 5 hits New York City, providing developers with the information, tools and motivation to utilize the revolutionary technology of HTML5. It’s everything you need to know until HTML6 comes along!
Get your OMMA on with a couple of sweet MediaPost events hitting the arenas this week. While OMMA (Premium) Display dives into the nitty gritty of Ad Placement in the digital ether, OMMA Data and Targeting attempts to elucidate the before and after said placements – helping figure out why your ads should work and if they do.
AlwaysOn, another well-known and widely respected event organizer, is hitting this week’s scene with the Silicon Valley Innovation Summit. As if the brilliant folks out in Silicon Valley need help staying ahead of the curve… my guess is this is a great opportunity to collaborate, expand your horizons, and look over your neighbor’s shoulder.
And just in case you’re one of those hot young innovators who’s trying to crack into the Silicon Valley scene (or more appropriately in this instance, the Washington D.C. scene), the VC and Angel Event Conference in D.C. will give you a long-awaited opportunity to grease some wheels in the name of progress.
Stuff that goes into your body and makes you feel swell
Do you like beer? Do I even have to ask? There’ll be plenty of beer lovers to mingle with in Oregon this week at the Oregon Brewers Festival, which offers dozens of crafty microbrews and more than 80,000 folks drinking ‘em. If my math is right, you might want to get there early.
Toronto has a hoppy streak as well, offering their own Festival of Beer with 200+ delicious golden variations on getting the most out of your day.
Metabolize some of that alcohol in Florida, then finish off with a nice bottle of red at the Key Largo Food & Wine Festival.
Geekin’ Out
There’s no shortage of geekery to spread this week. ArmadilloCon 34 hits Austin (that’s right – it’s the 34th one) and sparks some SciFi fancy amongst they types who prefer poking their imaginations through literary works.
The Steel City Comic & Toy Convention will be punched up by Hound Comics this year in PA, dispensing neatass collectibles all over the damn place.
Canada proudly hosts ConBravo! which features a deep line-up of cult-favored guests along with events, costumes and musical performers.
Finally, Otakon brings Asian pop culture stateside with a celebration of manga, anime and all that good stuff.
And So On…
Also, if you’re into unique, badass, crazy-cool stuff of all sorts crafted by hand and made with love, check out Maker Faire. It’s a truly awesome event that’s making it’s way to Detroit this week.
Those are the highlights this week, but don’t hesitate to browse around and see if anything else suits your fancy. There’s much more to be found at the Hound!
