According to the event industry, the beginning of Spring is a great time to pay attention to your home and garden, because there’s a slew of chances to do so. This particular weekend also brings a lot of other interesting and compelling events, and you’ll have to read on to find out if there’s one near you. Or just go to this page and enter your city. But I think you’ll prefer the read-on option.
Let’s start with the home and garden shows. Friday kicks off more of those than anything else, so I hope you’re ready to get into the swing of Spring. Opportunities to seize the day include: the Seattle Remodeling Expo, the Miami Spring Home Design and Remodeling Show, the Conway Home Expo in Arkansas, the Greater Philadelphia Spring Home Show and the nearby Suburban Pennsylvania Spring Home Show, the Sarasota Bradenton Home Show in Florida, the Better Living Home and Garden and Lifestyle Show in Portland, the OKC Home Show (guess where!), DuPage County Home Improvement and Landscaping Expo, and finally, MidSouthCon 30.
But home and garden shows are not all that today has to offer. We’ve got music, movies, booze and of course, food. For example, California’s Artisan Cheese Festival starts today, delighting taste buds in Petaluma.
Down in Miami, the Ultra Music Festival celebrates the best of electronic music from all over the world. With over 400 DJ’s and bands, there will certainly be some crazy beats dropped across Florida this weekend.
If said beats are making you hungry, (and artisan cheeses don’t fill you up) there are some delicious options up for grabs. Brew it, Sip it, Taste it, Pork it in Maryland at the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival. If you’re an American, you’re into at least one of those ingredients if not all three. Further up north, Canadians will be enjoying the “festival with taste,” aka the Food and Drink Fest in Ontario.
And I would be remiss not to mention HorrorHound Weekend in Columbus. This cult event will feature celebrity appearances by Pam Grier, Tippi Hedren, several cast members from Day of the Dead and ReAnimator and much more.
That sums up the weekend events kicking off on today. Saturday and Sunday also have some unique and exciting events to offer, including Planet Comicon, PLAY: The Games Festival, the Texas Wine & Rogue Art Festival, ToyFest West, the renowned Digiday Publishing Summit and ARF re:think for advertisers.
Well, that ought to keep you busy for a while. But just in case…
Check this out. Remember that supercomputer they made and named Watson? He appeared on Jeopardy! and destroyed his two (human) challengers. They expected to find other (more useful) applications for the robot who displays infinite intellectual capacity and native, intuitive intelligence, and it looks like that’s finally happening.
I mentioned yesterday that Angry Birds is releasing its newest game. Well, they’ve also found a pretty hilarious and creative way to promote it: by attaching a bird & slingshot to the Seattle Space Needle.
