Conference Hound-Up April 23, 2012: That Sexy Robot is Checking Me Out

Scary, right?

See below for a thrilling peek into the event industry and a terrifying glimpse into the future.  But most of all, have fun!

Miami is hosting the annual Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards Show, which will dominate the Marriot Marquis for most of the week.  Considering that “The Macarena” pops into my head while I write this, I am fully willing to admit that I am out of touch with this community.

The exhibition side of the movie industry gets some spotlight this week in Las Vegas as theater owners & operators gather in great numbers for CinemaCon.  This young yet popular event studies the business side of the industry with players from all over the world converging on Caesar’s Palace for the next four days.

eMetrics takes digital marketing to the great North this week with the eMetrics Marketing Optimization Summit in Toronto.  Strategy is the name of the game in digital marketing, and this event features top brands, droves of sessions and panels and more in order to make you a force to be reckoned with.

SugarCon is (unfortunately) not an event which celebrates our favorite sweet treats.  Instead, it dives into the world of CRM, with a mix of attendees absorbing sessions that have been added to the agenda based on popularity.

In Boston, they are attempting to revolutionize the music industry.  ReThink Music is designed to foster solutions for tomorrow’s music scene, by nursing great ideas and new technologies to fruition and discussing the problems facing the industry today.

We all know smart is sexy.  The breaking news, though, is that Data is the New Sexy.  This sleek NY Symposium will explore the ways in which data has become the hottest, coolest cat on the block.  I’m sure there’s some kind of “hard drive” joke here that’s ripe for the picking, but we are just way too classy for that.

Believe it or not, that’s only a glimpse of the awesome stuff sparking off the week with us.  Curious about the Future of Money & Technology? How about Automotive Connectivity?  Need any help using Social Media for Customer Service? Want to look at pictures of puppies?

IBM has built a prototype lithium-air battery that essentially “breathes.”  It will allow a car to travel up to 500 miles on a single charge.  Perhaps this whole electric vehicle thing will actually catch on — although this technology probably won’t be going to market for another ten years (for some reason).

And as these crazy cats are creating gadgets that mimic human traits, there are some folks on the other side of the coin taking our DNA and mixing it all up with gadgetry in some kind of crazy slap-in-the-face to evolution.  The singularity is fast approaching, and there’s nothing you can do about it.  Except learn to find robots sexy.
