OSCON 2012: Advancing Our Way Into the Future

For the past 14 years, O’Reilly Media has led the revolution of the Open Source Convention (OSCON), leading open source software development to what it is today: A valuable space for builders, innovators, investors and businesspeople alike to learn and work together towards further enhancing our future of modern technology.

Assembling the open source community, Oregon’s Convention Center welcomes OSCON 2012 with open arms for the third year in a row, bringing to Portland yet another exciting year filled with hundreds of opportunities to educate and inspire. From programmers and architects, to hackers and entrepreneurs, the experience of OSCON provides the essential tools necessary for any open source geek to jumpstart personal projects and businesses that will lead them in this five-day journey to go forth and prosper on their own.

From July 16th to the 20th, OSCON presents a forum for attendees to learn how open source is not only significantly altering the future of technology, but how others can join in on the movement. And what better way to motivate change than by hearing it from the experts themselves? OSCON caters several opportunities for participants to connect with keynote speakers and educators, receiving the chance to exchange expertise, discuss current challenges, and share project ideas that may encourage the open source community to increase in numbers and contribute toward the growth of this technological revolution. The convention offers various educational sessions, tutorials, activities and events that supply participants with professional guidance beneficial towards mastering technical skills and moving self projects step by step. Featured tutorials such as, “A Sip of CoffeeScript,” “Data in Science R,” and “HTML5 Workshop” are equipped with fundamental practice in the latest programs and techniques vital for coding and web app development. Along with tutorials, offered sessions cover numerous topics ranging from javascript, programming, community and business that enable participants to learn and better understand approaches and practices within these areas that can later be applied to their own work and ideas. But all computer talk and no fun? Not a chance! OSCON hosts multiple receptions and parties for people to meet and mingle with each other, all while indulging in decadent food and fresh drinks throughout the day and night. So, you can have the latest deets on that program software you’ve been eyeing with your ice cold beer in hand.

OSCON represents a profitable resource for the entire network of open source, built on education, motivation, and friendly fun, arranging a unique and influential experience for those passionate about open source and its development in technology for a better future in progress.
