William Jefferson Clinton was the first Democratic president in six decades to be elected twice – first in 1992 and then in 1996. Under his leadership, the country enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, including the creation of more than 22 million jobs.

After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the Clinton Foundation with the mission to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote health and wellness, and protect the environment.

In addition to his Foundation work, President Clinton has served as the top United Nations envoy for the Indian Ocean tsunami recovery effort and as the UN Special Envoy to Haiti. Today, the Clinton Foundation is supporting economic growth, capacity building, and education in Haiti.

President Clinton was born on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas. He and his wife Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have one daughter, Chelsea, and live in Chappaqua, New York.

The 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton is a political figure who a decade after leaving office continues to hold a powerful public position. Beginning as the Cold War ended, his term marked the longest period of peace–time economic expansion in American history. Clinton’s administration was dedicated to economic and educational reform. He proposed the first balanced budget in decades, and also achieved the lowest unemployment and inflation rates in modern times. Aside from political aspirations Clinton has an ability to connect with people, a definite factor in why he left the Oval Office with the highest end–of–office approval rating of any U.S. president since World War II.

Bill Clinton is a leader who has a strong tie to his roots and a passion for his past. These influences on his character shaped both his political career and post–administration efforts. He has been an important leader in emergency relief plans such as following the 2005 Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and most recently when he was named by the U.N. as a Special Envoy to Haiti. In 2005 he established the Clinton Global Initiative, an annual event that gathers a diverse group of global leaders to not only discuss, but also enact solutions to the world’s most pressing issues.
