DSI’s Expeditionary Operations Summit seeks to support the US and Allies’ amphibious capability through a focused dialogue on the advancement of capabilities as well as potential changes in doctrine, concepts and TTPS.
For the last 10 years the USMC and Navy have been working in a different paradigm than how they were designed. In Afghanistan and Iraq there were few “amphibious assaults” but since the end of the cold war the frequency of amphibious operations has almost doubled. As a result, the Navy and Marine Corps are well practiced in amphibious operations but may not have the capacity to assure access in sophisticated A2/AD environments. Recent exercises have underscored a need to improve expeditionary operations and SECDEF has instructed Navy and Marine Corps to re-align their core missions. DSI proposes to hold a conference designed to support the Joint Force in its critical mission to conduct successful expeditionary operations.
The Summit will bring together senior level officials from the Department of Defense, US Allied Defense Forces, the defense industry, and the academic community to increase the effectiveness of the joint operational access challenge.
