The Symposium is being organised by the Ramsar Convention and its MedWet Initiative, the High Commissariat for Water, Forests and the Fight against Desertification Control of Morocco as well as a number of environmental organisations such as BirdLife International, IUCN, Tour du Valat Research Centre, Wetlands International and WWF International. Main sponsors of the Symposium are the MAVA Foundation, the Italian Ministry of Environment and MedWet. This major event is being organised twenty years after the key conference on Mediterranean wetlands, which took place in Grado, Italy and gave rise to the MedWet Initiative. It aims to bring together main conservation and policy actors in order to review the current situation of water and wetlands in the Mediterranean, assess the new challenges and plan for the next twenty years.
