Why do we hold separate Paralympic and Olympic events?
Why should a Paralympian be different from an Olympian? It has been argued that Paralympic sports should be included within the Olympic Games, with some sports open to both Olympian and Paralympian athletes. On the other hand, perhaps the distinctiveness of Paralympian athletes is something to be celebrated and the separation should be maintained. This panel discussion, chaired by Professor Nick Tyler CBE (UCL Civil Engineering) discusses whether we should incorporate the two events into a single Olympic Games which is open to all.

Panellists will include Dr P David Howe, former Paralympian, UCL alumnus and Senior Lecturer in Anthropology of Sport at Loughborough University; Prof Nora Groce, Director of the UCL Leonard Cheshire Disability and Inclusive Development Centre; Mark Dyer, Accessible Transport Manager at the London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority and Dan Brooke, Director of Communications and Marketing at Channel 4, who is overseeing the television coverage of the Paralympics.
